No, it's the "Artisan" thing... In Crate and Barrel - speak, "Artisan" means "made in a sweat shop in Juarez" .. There was nothing artistic about the original bottom, unless you can call a press-stamped and roll formed piece of 20 gauge steel "artistic"...

What I welded in is just plain functional..

Put a 3.08 Posi 9c1 axle into the car over the weekend. I adapted the drums from the original 7.5". I had to get some drums off a 91, and redrill them to 5x4.75". The center bore on the original drums was smaller than what was on the 9c1 axles. Also found that the rear wheel cylinders both had the bleeder screws busted off. $80 later I had new drums, wheel cylinders, rubber brake hose to the frame, and the little widget retainers.

New TSB control arms, new rear cover (old one was too crusty to rely on)..

The rear fluid reservoir on the master was dry, so I had the wife help me bleed the brakes. Took the car out for a spin to see if all the work was worth it. Is this what they mean by burying the speedo? I wish it was the high speed, but it was more the fact of switching from a 2.41 axle to a 3.08.... now I really want an OD transmission..

Oh.... and a word of advice. Don't drop an 18mm combination wrench on your forehead. It's HIGHLY overrated.
